According to the California Community College Chancellor’s Office news release of May 30, 2007, Dr. Mark Drummond announced that he has accepted a new leadership role as Chancellor for the Los Angeles Community College District.
Mark Drummond, quote:
“I have mixed emotions about leaving the System Office, especially now that we are in the midst of making significant progress for improving student access and success on a state-wide basis. However, I am excited to return to Los Angeles knowing that I have made a contribution to the system and the state.”
Kay Albiani, President of the Board of Governors, quote:
“We are sad to see him leave. Mark is an outstanding leader who has helped transform the System Office into a highly effective advocate of our state’s community college system.”
Scott Lay, CEO Community College League of California, quote:
“Dr. Drummond has increased student access and success by advocating for more funding, higher standards and true accountability.”
Blog:
Chancellor Drummond was a visible leader for California Community Colleges. He earned a state wide reputation when he took over the nine-campus, 130,000 student LA Community College District in 1999, reversing an enrollment slump, streamlining district operations, and back to back billion-dollar bond campaigns to finance new construction. As Chancellor, he was known to spend one week per month visiting various colleges so that he would not lose touch with the institutions. Chancellor Drummond visited MSJC last fall concerned about funding grants for the nursing program. In my opinion, Dr. Drummond will not easily be replaced. LA Community College District will once again greatly benefit from his leadership. Under Drummond’s leadership…LACC always made “Cap”!
The L.A.Times reported on Dr. Drummond today also.
…from that article.. “I’m not a politician and that Sacramento job is really a political job.” The academic pre-university programs at the nine colleges are in decent shape, but the vocational and workforce programs “need fixing to help people who are marginally or underemployed”. Drummond’s base salary will be $285,000.00 It will be interesting to see who will replace him in the State position.
I think this is one of the most significant info for me. And i am glad reading your article. But want to remark on few general things, The website style is great, the articles is really excellent : D. Good job, cheers
